Started attending flute-classes at the age of ten, she soon realised she wanted to be a professional musician. She became a student at the Conservatory in The Hague in 1989, where she studied with Rien de Reede ("Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest") and Thies Roorda ("Radio Symfonie Orkest"). Consequently that she studied traverso at the Conservatory of Utrecht with Wilbert Hazelzet. Currently Mariëlle is training as a post graduate student at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Marten Root in order to specialize in old instruments. She attended masterclasses with, amongst others, Robert Dick, Peter Lukas Graf and Trevor Wye. Mariëlle is an active chamber-musician. She plays in the Cavatina duo (flute, guitar) and in Les Etoiles (flute, violin, cello). Mariëlle also played in various musicals: "Miss Saigon", "Elisabeth" to name two of them. She is also a substitude musician with the Orchestra of the Royal Airforce.
